Third Ad Artists Group, a new company, will present a revival of Neil R. Selden's 1969 drama, SOMEONE'S COMIN' HUNGRY, at the New 42nd Street Theater (348 West 42nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). The play, about a Vietnam War veteran and his multi-racial family, has been re-visited by the author. Performances will begin on Thursday, February 17th, with the opening set for Sunday, February 20th.

SOMEONE'S COMIN' HUNGRY tells the story of a highly decorated black Vietnam War veteran (Paul) and his pregnant Jewish - and white - wife, Connie. Connie is an activist, and a regular at protest rallies, whose parents consider her dead for marrying "a Negro". A strong-willed black woman dancer named Tamara moves into the apartment upstairs - she is extremely distrustful of all white people, and feels that a white wife will only destroy a good black man. Set in the highly volatile New York City of 1968, SOMEONE'S COMIN' HUNGRY brings back old feelings of racial tensions from the Summer of Love, reminding us both how far race relations have come and how far they still have to go.

In 1969, SOMEONE'S COMIN' HUNGRY premiered at the Pocket Theater. Many careers were launched from this production, including Cleavon Little, and a young actress named Blythe Danner, who met her future husband, producer Bruce Paltrow, working on the show. The play itself received excellent notices, with the Village Voice hailing it as a wonderful new drama that "should have a long run." Unfortunately, it did not, but now the Third Ad Artists Group is bringing this play back after extensive revisions by the author, Neil R. Selden.

Director Sandy Harper will direct a cast that includes Kathryn Smith McGlynn, Anslem Richardson, Elena Katzap, and Randy Frazier, and feature set and lighting design by Kellis Carroll. Costume design will be by Allen Hale.

SOMEONE'S COMIN' HUNGRY will begin previews on February 17th for a February 20th opening, and will play through March 5th. Performances will be Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00pm, with Sunday matinees at 3:00pm (see below for exceptions). Tickets will be $12.00 for all seats, and reservations can be made by calling Smarttix at (212) 532-8887.
